2016 - Timeline
from This Date in Astros History

Mar 24 - Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes tries to convince umpire C.B. Buckner that an A.J. Reed drive to center is unplayable at the outfield fence but Buckner is not fooled. Reed jogs home with an inside-the-park homer to start an 8-5 victory. Dallas Keuchel tosses five shutout innings.

Aug 01 - In the midst of a disappointing season, the Astros make a move that would be noticed three years later. Houston deals reliever Josh Fields to the Los Angeles Dodgers for recently-signed Cuban outfielder Yordan Alvarez. A raw 19-year-old prospect at the time, the 6-5 slugger would explode onto the scene as the AL Rookie of the Year in 2019.

Dec 05 - Astros sign 40-year-old outfielder Carlos Beltran to a one-year deal for $16 million. Beltran becomes the Designated Hitter, batting .231 with 14 homers, and providing veteran leadership to the team's many Latin players. His reward is to close out his career with the Worlds Championship he had previously lacked.
