Astros Stats

One of the appeals of baseball, at least for many fans, is its extensive and rich history of statistical records. Metrics have been kept on player performances since the 19th century; the first "box scores" were merely the team lineups with hash marks denoting how many times each player scored.

Now with the use of computers and the availability of play-by-play data, baseball fans have more data at their fingertips than ever before. There are a zillion ways to break down baseball statistics, and we've provided a few here for Astros fans.

Players - for individual player stats, check the all-time roster for stats on any Astro. Direct links to player pages on the Baseball Reference and Retrosheet websites are provided for even more information.

Teams - if you want information about particular teams, the Timeline page in our History section has links to a recap, including stats, for every season since 1962.

Records - If you are curious about statistical records for the franchise, our Records page has an extensive sampling of batting and pitching records.

Software - the Astros Statistical Software, or A.S.S., provides access to detailed play-by-play data going back to 1969. This software is not for the casual user, but makes it much easier for the hard-core sabermetrician to mine useful information from the growing collection of historical play-by-play data.
