A native of Venezuela, Perez spent 10 seasons as a utility infielder with the Blue Jays, Phillies and Devil Rays. He was brought to the Astros in 2008 due to Ed Wade's familiarity with him. Although he made the team out of spring training, he was sent to the minors soon afterwards where he spent the rest of the season.
