Dealt from the Yankees at the 2010 trade deadline for Lance Berkman, Melancon (pron: mel-AHN-son) had two short stints with the Bronx Bombers before the trade. The Colorado native pitched at the University of Arizona. He established himself as the closer during 2011 when Brandon Lyon was injured, posting 20 saves. He became the first trade of the Jim Crane era when he was sent to Boston for shortstop Jed Lowrie and pitcher Kyle Weiland.
