This Date in Astros History Nov 4, 1979 - Ezequiel Astacio is born in Hato Mayor, DR. In two partial seasons (2005,2006), the righthander registers a 5-6 record and a 6.02 ERA. Nov 3, 2003 - In an anticipated salary move, Houston trades closer Billy Wagner to the Philadelphia Phillies for righthanded pitchers Brandon Duckworth, Taylor Buchholz and Ezequiel Astacio. Wagner had opened the door to be traded after criticizing the ownership for not making the moves he thought would bring a pennant to Houston. Jul 28, 2005 - Brad Ausmus doubles home Orlando Palmeiro in the bottom of the ninth to nip the Mets, 3-2. Rookie Ezequiel Astacio battles Pedro Martinez to a draw, helped by a solo homer from Adam Everett and an RBI squeeze bunt by Ausmus. The win puts Houston into a tie with Washington for the wild card slot after starting the season with a 15-30 mark. All the excitement overshadows the return of 2004 postseason hero Carlos Beltran who then rebuffed the Astros and signed with New York. Beltran is booed relentlessly by the sellout crowd as he struggles through an oh-for-four night. Oct 25, 2005 - Ex-Astro Geoff Blum breaks Houston's heart with a 14th-inning homer off Ezequiel Astacio to win the longest game in World Series history for the White Sox, 7-5, to take a 3-0 lead over the Astros in the first Series game held on Texas soil. Roy Oswalt loses an early 4-0 lead but the Astros tie it in the eighth on Jason Lane's double. Houston squanders numerous other chances to score (aided by a dozen walks) until Blum decides the outcome. Photos ![]() |
