Nov 12 1936 - Joe Hoerner is born in Dubuque, IA. The lefthander makes his major league debut at the end of the 1963 season with the Colt .45s and gets into seven more games the next year. He resurfaces in St. Louis in 1966 and pitches in the bigs for another 12 seasons. He died on October 4th, 1996 at age 59 in Hermann, MO after a farming accident.

Jun 08 1969 - Private Larry Dierker, on a 24-hour pass from the Army while fulfilling his military commitment in Louisiana, outduels Steve Carlton for a 2-1, eleven-inning triumph over the Cardinals at the Astrodome. Dierker allows just five hits and caps his night by driving in Julio Gotay with the game-winner. Dierker singled off Joe Hoerner to earn his eighth win of the year.
