Dec 04 1989 - Astros acquire righthander Xavier Hernandez from the Toronto Blue Jays' system in the major league phase of the winter draft. The Astros lose infielder Chuck Jackson in the same draft. Hernandez would provide 22 wins and 25 saves over five seasons in Houston. Jackson batted .221 in reserve duty for the Astros in 1987 and 1988.

Jun 05 1992 - Jeff Bagwell tags Jeff Brantley with a two-run homer in the ninth to stun the Giants, 5-4. Xavier Hernandez is the surprise winner with Doug Jones notching his 14th save.

May 10 1993 - Ken Caminiti spanks a two-run double that caps a four-run eighth as Houston stuns the Braves, 5-2. Jose Uribe scores the game-winner. Xavier Hernandez picks up the win in relief.

Nov 27 1993 - Astros deal pitcher Xavier Hernandez to the Yankees for pitcher Domingo Jean and infielder Andy Stankewicz. It is Jean the Astros covet but he never makes it back to the majors after ten games with New York. Stankewicz bats .189 in a reserve role over the next two seasons.

Jul 29 1996 - Pinch-hitter Bill Spiers blasts a solo shot off Mark Portugal in the eighth to tie the Reds. Derrick May then walks and eventually scores on a Jeff Bagwell single for a 2-1 Houston win. Mike Hampton allows just four hits and gets help from Xavier Hernandez and Billy Wagner for the victory.

Sep 06 1996 - Danny Darwin and Xavier Hernandez combine on a two-hitter to blanket the Rockies, 2-1. Both are in their second stint with the Astros. Bill Spiers' pinch-hit double in the eighth drives home Ray Montgomery with the winning run.
