Starting are outfielders Brock Davis, Aaron Pointer and Jim Wynn, infielders Rusty Staub, Joe Morgan, Sonny Jackson and Glenn Vaughan, catcher Jerry Grote and 17-year-old pitcher Jay Dahl. Despite four future All-Stars, the Mets prevail, 10-3. |

Aug 23, 1964: | Don Larsen, of World Series no-hit fame, tosses a five-hitter in the Texas heat to best Warren Spahn and the Milwaukee Braves, 7-1. It is Larsen's first complete game in five years. Bob Aspromonte and Walt Bond launch solo bombs to pace the Colts. Rookie catcher Jerry Grote adds two hits, including a two-run double. |
Oct 19, 1965: | Astros deal catcher Jerry Grote to the New York Mets for pitcher Tom Parsons and cash. Although batting just .182 with the Colt .45s, the San Antonio native goes on to several All-Star seasons in New York while Parsons never catches on in Houston. |
