George Adrian "Red" Witt was signed by Brooklyn in 1950 but was claimed by the Pirates four years later and made his debut with them in 1957. He pitched irregularly with them for five seasons before he was swapped to the expansion Los Angeles Angels in 1962. The Angels sent him back after five games so the Pirates sold him to the expansion Houston Colt .45s two weeks later.

As a Colt, Witt appeared in eight games and posted an 0-2 record with a 7.04 ERA to close his big league career. Overall, he had an 11-16 record with three shutouts and a 4.32 ERA.
