The Brownwood TX native was given the colorful nickname "No Neck" and it was easy to see why. Signed by the Colt .45s in 1963, he played in 1964 as a 20-year-old and went 0-for-9 with one steal and one run scored in ten games before he was waived and claimed by the Cardinals. Williams then went to Chicago and returned to the majors in 1967 with the White Sox. He spent six seasons there and played with the Indians and Yankees as he closed out his career.

For his ten overall seasons, Williams hit .270 with 33 homers and 34 steals but his nickname is usually the first thing baseball fans remember about him.

Walt passed away from a heart attack in Abilene, TX on January 23, 2016 at the age of 72.
