A 10th-round pick of the Astros in 1965, Walton made his debut with Houston in 1968. The Los Angeles native went 0-for-2. The next season, he was traded to the Seattle Pilots for Tommy Davis. His career then took him to Milwaukee, the Yankees, Minnesota, the Dodgers and Texas. Walton came back to the Astros in 1977 in a September deal with the Dodgers and hit .190 in 13 games.

For his nine big league seasons, Walton hit .223 with 28 homers.

Daniel James Walton passed away in Morgan, Utah at age 70 from undisclosed causes on August 9, 2017.
