The native of Mexico City who played at the University of Texas before turning pro was brought up through the Oakland and Texas farm systems before the Rangers released him midway in the 1988 season. Called up in 1991 and performing mostly as a pinch-hitter, Tolentino appeared in 44 games and hit .259 with one homer. It was his only year in the majors.
