Born: Jun 11, 1929
A three-time All-Star with the Pirates in the 1950s, Thomas became a frequently-traded vagabond during the 1960s as he completed a 16-year career. The Pittsburgh native was traded to the Reds in 1959, to the Cubs the following winter, to the Braves the next spring, to the expansion Mets late in 1961, to the Phillies in 1964, to the Astros in July of 1965 and traded back to the Braves seven weeks later. He spent his last year in the majors with the Cubs in 1967 - having played for seven of the ten National League teams in business at the time.
Thomas had clubhouse run-ins with Phillie star Richie Allen with led to his getting traded to Houston. Arriving as the "Phighting Phillie", Thomas played in 23 games for the Astros. He batted .172 with three homers. For his full career, he batted .266 with 286 homers.
