A Hamilton, OH native, Stone was in the Dodgers system before he debuted with the Astros in 2001. The reliever pitched four seasons in Houston, compiling a 10-8 record with two saves and a 3.80 ERA. Released midway in the 2004 season, Stone resumed his career with the Padres and Reds. For his career, he had an 11-9 record with a 4.68 ERA.

Mentioned briefly in the Mitchell Report, Stone had a brain tumor after his playing days were over and was in ill health for quite sometime in the Cincinnati area.
