Gorrell Robert Stinson III was a switch-hitting catcher who took several seasons to break through as a starter. One of the places that didn't happen was in Houston. The former first-round pick of the Dodgers was traded by St. Louis to Houston for utilityman Marty Martinez after the 1971 season. In 27 games for the Astros in 1972, he hit .171.

Sold to the Expos the following spring, he kicked around with Montreal and Kansas City before he was plucked by the Seattle Mariners in the 25th round of the 1977 expansion draft. He became the regular catcher for them those first two seasons in the Northwest and hit .269 and .258 before tapering off. For his full 12 seasons, Stinson compiled a .250 average with 33 homers.
