A first round pick of the Astros (fifth overall) in 1973, the righthander debuted with Houston in 1975 and posted an 0-2 record in seven games as a 22-year-old but spent the rest of his time in the minors or in international ball until he was signed by the Indians five years later. He then spent six seasons pitching for the Indians, Mariners and White Sox through 1985. For his career, Stanton posted a 13-22 record with 31 saves and 4.61 ERA.
