A cousin of the Alou family from the Dominican Republic, Sosa was signed by the Astros. In 1975, he made his debut at age 22. He became the first Astro to hit a homer in his first big league at bat. He also collected his first save the same night. They would both be his first and last in the majors. Overall, in 34 games, he had a 1-3 record with a 4.60 ERA over parts of two seasons with Houston. They were his only years in the major leagues.
