Born: May 10, 1969
Austin-born Schourek (pron: SHURE-ek) spent seven seasons with the Mets and Reds before joining the Astros in 1998. When he signed, he declared he would only be used as a starting pitcher but, after some shaky starts, the Astros wanted him to move to the bullpen. He refused and was sold to the Red Sox.
During his stay in Houston, Schourek posted a 7-6 record with a 4.50 ERA in 15 starts. For his career, his record was 66-77 with a 4.59 ERA in eleven seasons with the Mets, Reds, Astros, Red Sox and Pirates.
