The Michigan native came up with the hometown Tigers and was traded to the Astros for the 1976 season. He spent two seasons with the Astros where he batted .267 with seven homers.

Returning to the American League, Roberts played for the Mariners, Rangers, Blue Jays and Royals before hanging them up. For his career, Roberts hit .267 with 78 homers and 328 RBIs, 92 of them coming in his career year of 1978.
