The Georgia native was originally signed with the Braves but got his first taste of the big leagues with the Houston Colt .45s in their inaugural 1962 season. In 71 games, the catcher hit .234 with four homers and a surprising eight triples. He kicked around with the Cubs, Braves, Angels and Pilots during the rest of the decade. For his career, Ranew hit .247 with eight homers in five seasons. Ranew passed away on October 18, 2011 in Valdosta, GA. |
