The Nebraska native got into 14 games for the Astros during the 1997 season but went 0-for-12 with two walks for his only experience in the majors. Originally signed by the Cubs, Ramos had also been in the minors with the Indians and White Sox before coming to Houston.

On May 15, 2016, Ramos shot his wife Lisa and then himself in the basement of their Pueblo, CO home in an apparent murder-suicide.
