A Dominican catcher admired for his defensive skills, Pujols played seven seasons with Houston and nine seasons in the bigs despite rarely hitting over .200. For his time with the Astros, Pujols batted .193 with six homers in 311 games. He later played briefly with the Royals and Rangers.

He went on to coach and manage in the Astros farm system and was named to manage the Tigers in 2002, earning a 55-100 record while finishing fifth in the American League Central.
