The Houston-born infielder was a fifth-round choice in 1975 by the Astros. Nicknamed "Shoes," he debuted with them in 1981 and hit .276 in 67 games over two seasons. He was dealt to the Padres for lefthander Danny Boone in 1982 and later played for the Giants. For his brief big league career, he was a .263 hitter with 13 steals.

After his playing career, Pittman served as a scout in the Astros organization from 1988 to 2003, and as a minor league instructor in 1996.

He passed away in Houston on June 13, 2014, at age 61. See In Memory Of...
