A stellar catcher for the Pirates and Cardinals in the 1980s, the Dominican made his last big league stop in Houston at age 40 in 1997, where he hit .211 in nine games. For his career, though, the five-time All-Star was a .260 hitter with 107 homers over 18 seasons.

After retiring, Pena managed in the Astros' minor league system before getting the job to manage the Kansas City Royals from 2002-2005, winning AL Manager of the Year in 2003.
