Born: Aug 29, 1939
Brought up by the Orioles in 1960 as a 20-year-old, Nicholson showed great power but little plate discipline. Dealt to the White Sox, the St. Louis native set a career high in 1963 with 22 homers but also led the American League with 175 strikeouts.
Three years later he was traded to the Astros and played 100 games. He batted .246 with 10 homers then was swapped to Atlanta in a multi-player deal that included Eddie Mathews. For his seven big league seasons, Nicholson amassed 61 homers to go with a .212 average and 573 strikeouts.
