Denver-born Mouton was a seventh-round pick of the Astros but was considered a top prospect when he won the PCL (AAA) MVP award in 1993. Promoted to the majors the following spring, Mouton was saluted with choruses of "Mooooo" by eager fans. He hit .245 in his debut season and batted .249 with 12 homers in four seasons with the Astros.
Reduced to back-up duties in Houston, Mouton was traded to San Diego, followed by stints with the Expos and Brewers to close out his career. In eight seasons, Mouton compiled a .246 batting average with 18 homers and 109 steals.
