The son of big leaguer Rene Monteagudo, Aurelio made his debut at age 19 with the Kansas City Athletics and spent parts of four seasons with them. He was sold to the Astros in the 1966 season and appeared in ten games for them with no record, one save and a 4.70 ERA before he was sold to the Reds. Aurelio resurfaced in the majors with the White Sox the next year then with the Royals in 1970 and with the Angels in 1973 but never lasted long.

For his full career, he compiled a 3-7 record with four saves and a 5.05 ERA.
