An All-Star in Cincinnati, Lee May (not to be confused with outfielder Lee Maye) came to the Astros in the major trade that sent Joe Morgan and Cesar Geronimo to Houston in return for May and Tommy Helms. While no Morgan, Lee May was an All-Star in 1972 and anchored the Astros' lineup for three seasons, batting .274 with 81 homers and 288 RBIs.

For his career, "Mo" batted .267 over 18 seasons. He clubbed 354 homers and drove in 1244 while solving the constant need for a slugging first baseman that the franchise had since its beginning.

Lee May passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 29, 2017.
