A two-time All-Star, Loretta's lack of home run power has prevented him from being a starter in many of his stops but his great bat control has made him a useful veteran off the bench and as a part-time starter.
He spent two tours with Houston, the first as a mid-season trade acquisition from the Brewers in 2002 as the Astros tried to make a last-minute pennant rush that fell short. After stops in San Diego and Boston, the versatile infielder returned to Houston in 2007 and 2008. As an Astro, he hit .296 with 10 homers during those three seasons. Overall, he is a career .295 hitter with 76 homers over his 15 seasons.
