A two-time All-Star with the Dodgers, Larker was claimed by the Astros in the 1961 Expansion draft. He was with the original Colt .45s in 1962 and batted .263 with nine homers. After that season, he was dealt to Milwaukee for three players, including no-hit pitcher Don Nottebart.

He split time between the Braves and the Giants in his final big league campaign. Over six seasons in the majors, Larker hit .275 with 32 homers. The hot-tempered first baseman was known as "Dumbo" because of his big ears.

Larker passed away from cancer on March 12, 2007 in Long Beach, CA at age 76.
