Selected from the University of Arkansas in the seventh round of the 2009 draft, the lefthander from Tulsa, OK is a New Years Day baby. After a great debut against the Texas Rangers on June 17, 2012, Keuchel fell off to a 3-8 record and 5.27 ERA during his rookie season.

He improved in 2013, then had a breakout season in 2014, going 12-9 with a 2.93 ERA to emerge as the clear staff ace, a contact pitcher inducing ground balls at a high rate.

In 2015, he was selected as the starting pitcher for the AL All-Star team, was the first AL pitcher to 16 wins, finished the season with a 20-8 record, and won the AL Cy Young Award.
