The Dallas native was the third overall pick of the Padres in 1982. He struggled with San Diego and the Yankees before he was signed by the Astros in 1991. He posted a 16-14 record with a 4.23 ERA in two seasons.

He signed with the Expos for a final year in the majors. For his full career, Jones was 43-39 with a 4.46 ERA over eight seasons.
