A journeyman righthander, Jones pitched for the Cardinals, Giants, Orioles and Athletics before closing his big league career with Houston in 1964 and 1965. During his time in Houston, Jones had an 0-1 record and a 4.06 ERA. For his full career, Jones was a 15-18 pitcher with 12 saves and a 4.16 ERA over nine seasons.

Jones joined the Astros' coaching staff once his playing career ended, acting as a pitching coach for two seasons. Jones passed away on April 25, 1994 in Lodi, CA.
