The Alabama native was originally signed by the Cubs but saw his only time in the big leagues with expansion Houston Colt .45s. The shortstop appeared in 90 games and hit .185 with no homers. Hartman showed he was a team player by also giving haircuts to some of the other Houston players. He was a popular teammate but, with that average, it was good that he had another career to fall back on. Instead of hair-styling, though, Hartman joined the Houston Police Department and became the first of his race to be named to the rank of sergeant with the HPD. |
