A utility infielder, the Puerto Rican was acquired in 1976 for outfielder Greg Gross and played four season with Houston before closing his career with the Cardinals and Tigers.

While in Houston, Gonzalez hit .235 with two homers in 296 games. He played for the 1980 Western Division champs, but was not on the postseason roster.
