An Illinois native, Geiger started with Indians but had his biggest success during seven years with the Red Sox. After two seasons with the Braves, the outfielder came to the Astros in the Rule V draft. In his two seasons with Houston, he batted .225 in 98 games.

Geiger died on April 24, 1996 in Murphysboro, IL of liver failure at age 59.
