Born: Feb 2, 1977
The slender shortstop from Georgia was a first-round choice of the Red Sox in 1998 and took part in the 2000 U.S. Olympics where he won a gold medal.
He was traded to Houston in a deal that sent Carl Everett (no relation) to Boston. Everett made his debut with the Astros in 2001 and the slick-fielding infielder stayed through the 2007 season, batting .248 with 35 homers over that span. He hit .208 in the postseason during the playoff runs of 2004 and 2005.
Released after the Astros traded for Miguel Tejada, Everett has kept in the majors by playing with the Twins and Tigers.
