Known as "Tough Tony", the stocky Dominican catcher first came up to Houston in 1991 then resurfaced with the Astros in 1994 and played through 2001, mostly as a backup. Overall, Eusebio hit .275 with 30 homers and 241 RBIs over nine big league seasons, all with Houston. He hit .375 in four post-seasons with the Astros and homered in Game 4 of the 1999 NLDS, the last game played at the Astrodome. Eusebio also set a team record (since broken) of a 24-game hitting streak in 2000. As a reserve, Tony's streak started on July 9th but he didn't set the record until August 28th, a span of 50 days. |
