The righthander spent five years with the Cubs before he was claimed by the Colt .45s in the 1961 expansion draft. He was 3-12 with a 5.29 ERA during the club's first two seasons. Ironically, his best game might have been one of those losses. In San Francisco, Drott and the Colts were no-hit by Juan Marichal on June 15, 1963. Drott allowed just one hit over the first seven innings but gave up a pair of doubles in the eighth for the game's only run - becoming the losing pitcher in a 1-0 three-hitter. Richard Fred Drott passed away on August 16, 1985 of stomach cancer in suburban Chicago. |
