Dan Driessen has the dubious distinction of being the first NL designated hitter, filling that spot for Cincinnati in the 1976 World Series. Once he moved from third base to fill Tony Perez' shoes at first, he led the league in fielding three times.

He would appear in only 17 games as an Astro in 1986, hitting .292. He finished his major league career with the Cardinals in 1987.

He is the uncle of first-baseman Gerald Perry, and the cousin of Reggie Kinlaw, an NFL nose-guard.
