Born: Jul 25, 1962
A graduate of the University of Houston, Doug Drabek came up with the Pirates in 1988 and became their staff ace by the time of his departure in 1992. In 1990, he won the National League Cy Young award with a 22-6 record and 2.76 ERA.
He joined the Astros as a free agent in 1993. Though his 12-6 record in 1994 earned him his only All-Star appearance, his overall performance was a disappointment, souring Astros owner Drayton McLane's taste for high-priced free agents until Jeff Kent came along in 2003.
Departing the Astros before the 1996 season, Drabek played the final two seasons of his career with the White Sox and Orioles.
