A former first round draft choice of the Marlins, Dominguez was acquired by the Astros for Carlos Lee in July of 2012. He displayed some late-season power, batting .284 with five homers in 31 games.
The third baseman continued to hit for power -- 21 homers in 2013 and 16 in 2014 -- but his OPS trailed off from .690 to .586 over the same period.
The Astros' off-season acquisitions of Jed Lowrie and Luis Valbuena for 2015 meant that Dominguez no longer had a spot on the big club so he started the season at AAA Fresno. Then in June 2015, the promotion of uber-stud SS Carlos Correa made Dominguez expendable, so the Astros placed him on waivers that same month, from whence he was picked up by the Brewers. September found him on the waiver wire again, this time to be claimed by the Blue Jays.
For his two-plus seasons in Houston, Dominguez slashed .233/.274/.376 with 42 HR and 57 RBI.
