Born: Jul 2, 1983
A native of the Dominican Republic, Samuel Deduno signed with the Colorado Rockies at the age of 19. After seven seasons in the minors and brief stints in the big leagues with Colorado and San Diego, Deduno found a home with the Minnesota Twins. Deduno was a member Minnesota's starting rotation in 2012 and 2013 but struggles with his command led to a demotion to the bullpen in 2014.
The Astros claimed Deduno off waivers in August of that year and he made five appearances for Houston down the stretch. Deduno made nine more appearances for the Astros in 2015 before a hip injury ended his season.
The winning pitcher of the 2013 World Baseball Classic Championship Game, Deduno was granted free agency after the 2015 season.
