Brash Chuck Carr had a lot of speed and bravado but struggled as a hitter. He had already spent time with the Mets, Cardinals, Marlins and Brewers before coming to Houston in 1997 as a free agent. For the rest of the season, he hit .276 in 63 games as he helped the Astros win the Central Division title. While many hitters cursed the Astrodome, Carr actually liked it. He hit three of his four homers in the Dome then capped that with a homer in the NLDS off John Smoltz. Ironically, it was the last game of Carr's big league career. So I guess you could say he went out with a bang. Carr passed away on November 13, 2022 at age 55 . |
