Signed originally by the Tigers, Bryant first surfaced with the Cubs in 1966 where he hit .308 in 13 games. The backup catcher hit .193 during parts of two seasons with the Astros after the expansion draft depleted Houston's catching corps.

Bryant caught the second of Don Wilson's no-hitters. He also had two hits of his own in that May 1, 1969 gem against Cincinnati.
