The Alabama native was signed by the Giants and was once dubbed the "next Willie Mays" but he did not live up to the billing and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 1968 expansion draft. He played four years with San Diego then saw himself kicked around to Oakland, Milwaukee and California before he was purchased by the Astros in the spring of 1974. Brown played for two months and hit .217 before he was waived by Houston and claimed by Philadelphia where he finished his big league career. Brown passed away from complications of mesothelioma on April 16, 2015 at age 71. |
