He was one of those rare first-basemen who aren't expected to slug at the plate, owing to his defensive skills. Bream came up with the Dodgers in 1983, then was traded to the Pirates in 1985, where he came into his own.

He spent three seasons in Atlanta, then was traded to Houston in 1994, where he batted .344 in 46 games, after which he retired.
