A first-round pick out of UCLA in 1990, Berry played six season withs the Royals and Expos before he was dealt to the Astros for catcher Raul Chavez and pitcher Dave Veres.

The third sacker hit .283 with 38 homers during three seasons in Houston. He spent two additional seasons with Milwaukee and Boston.

He returned to the Astros and served as a hitting coach when he was diagnosed with cancer during the 2009 season. He was treated for the disease and finished out the year as part of Cecil Cooper's coaching staff.
