Wesley Owen Bales was signed by the Milwaukee Braves in 1963 and reached the majors with Atlanta at the tender age of 21 in 1966, hitting .063 in 12 games. He was sent to the Astros at the end of the season along with pitchers Tom Dukes and Dan Schneider. The middle infielder hit .111 in 19 games with Houston during the 1967 season but did not return to the major leagues after that.
