Former Drillers manager Martinez dies

(TULSA, Okla.) March 14 - Former Tulsa Drillers player-manager Marty Martinez has died in the Dominican Republic at age 65.

Martinez managed the Drillers in 1977 and '78 and led the team to a Texas League first-half title in 1977.

He was the Drillers only player-manager and appeared in seven games during the two seasons.

Martinez played in the major leagues with Minnesota, Atlanta, Houston, St. Louis, Texas and Oakland and was a coach with the Seattle Mariners.

He also was interim manager for one game for Seattle.
